Rotorua Massage Therapy
Traditional Maori Massage Romiromi Massage is an ancient Maori (indigenous people of New Zealand) massage and healing technique derived from the centuries old ‘universal spiritual lore’of traditional Maori healing.
The authenticity comes from the practitioner’s study of the sacred “Waananga Lore” that is passed down by Tohunga (reputable spiritual teacher and practitioner) or tribal elders through families.
More advanced practitioners continue to be taught through wairua (spirit).
This traditional Maori bodywork and healing therapy works with the person’s physical body, emotional body and etheric body or spiritual layers, and is considered a sacred contract between the ancestors of the practitioner/healer and those of the person being worked on, and IO (God)-Source of all.
The person being worked on is honoured as his/her higher purpose and always respected.
Romiromi Massage works on a vibrational frequency and cellular level and is the strongest and deepest of the traditional Maori bodywork practices. A body alignment, joint manipulation, deep tissue massage and stimulation of pressure points are used to activate the cellular memory for release of anything not benefiting the person being worked on. Elbows, arms and sometimes feet, pounamu (greenstone), or stones are the practitioners tools for deep release work as well as working through a spiritual dimension called whatumanawa (the seeing heart).
Practitioners aim to take extraneous energies off a person to release them of burdens and entities not belonging to them so they can be brought back into a more balanced state of health. Transformational feelings of being woken up, uplifted, feeling lighter, rejuvenated and re-energised have been reported after Romiromi as well as significant healings of diseases and body disfunction.
A leading Maori Tohunga and Romiromi practitioner, Papa Hohepa De la Mere, took Traditional Maori Massage and Healing to the world before his passing over in 2006.
Mirimiri Massage is an ancient Maori (indigenous people of New Zealand) massage and healing technique derived from the centuries old universal spiritual ‘lore’of traditional Maori healing. The authenticity comes from the practitioner’s study of the sacred “Waananga Lore” that is passed down by Tohunga (reputable spiritual teacher and practitioner) or tribal elders through families.
More advanced practitioners continue to be taught through wairua (spirit). This traditional Maori bodywork and healing therapy works with the person’s physical body, emotional body, and etheric body and is considered a sacred contract between the ancestors of the practitioner/healer and those of the person being worked on and IO (God)-Source of all. The person being worked on is honoured as his/her higher purpose is always respected. Mirimiri is usually a lighter version of Romiromi but still works deeply on the spiritual layers to balance the vibration of the body, to remove extraneous energy and achieve the same healing outcomes.
Mirimiri is considered more of a relaxing therapeutic therapy using soft and deep tissue massage and breathing techniques. (ref Romiromi). In some areas Romiromi is called Mirimiri as there are tribal dialectical differences. Both these forms of traditional bodywork can be complimented by traditional Maori medicine or Rongoa (sourced from the New Zealand bush )
