Rotorua Massage – Traditional Romiromi Massage
Rotorua Holistic Healing On The Marae
After ten popular traditional Romiromi massage workshops in 2011; in Hawaii, New Zealand and Australia I am very excited to confirm a workshop next year in January 2012, at Te Roro o Te Rangi Marae, named after one of our Ngati Whakaue tupuna (ancestors).
The oldest and smallest marae at Ohinemutu village, Rotorua, will be perfect for our two day introductory workshop, a sharing of Maori healing korero (talk) and ‘hands on’ Romiromi traditional massage based on the teachings of the late Tohunga, Papa Hohepa De La Mere.
Taking this Maori massage and holistic healing workshop back to my turangawaewae (tribal place to stand) is a natural and joyful process for me.
My great grandfather Bishop Frederick Bennett is buried in the alter of St Faiths Church, also at Ohinemutu village, Rotorua, as he was the first Maori Bishop in Aotearoa (NZ). His first wife, my Te Atiawa great grandmother, lies at the front of the church.
Our ancient form of holistic healing known as Romiromi is considered a sacred contract with us, our ancestors and IO (God, Source of all).
Doing the ‘mahi’ (Romiromi massage and healing) in the wharenui (meeting house) is very powerful, as it is the house dedicated to and supported by our ancestors who in spirit, help with the holistic healing process and are our link to IO.
