The Revival Of Romiromi – Traditional Maori Healing

Romiromi, an holistic healing bodywork derives from the ancient Waananga Lore of Traditional Maori Healing. This body of knowledge has been passed down through families and tohunga with tribal variations. Throughout the Pacific, similar bodywork exists, for example Cook Island Romiromi and Hawaiian Lomilomi, however New Zealand Maori retained a very deep healing modality that was forced to go underground with the Tohunga Suppression Act 1907 banning all Maori spiritual and cultural practices including bodywork and Rongoa (traditional Maori medicine), to make way for western medicine. This law was repealed in 1967 but left a devastating effect on Maori as a race.

In 2001 I was fortunate to meet a world renowned Tohunga, the late Papa Hohepa De La Mere (Papa Jo). I was lead to one of his traditional Maori Healing clinics in Auckland and went to experience healing in the form of Romiromi. My world changed! I had the opportunity to attend Waananga, the study of the ancient ‘lore’ and also to train in Romiromi bodywork at the weekly clinics.

In 2010 I was ready to take a step in trust of universal lore and embark on my soul purpose. I opened a private practice Wikitoria Maori Healing in my tribal home of Rotorua offering Romiromi and Mirimiri (massage and counseling support for Romiromi). A year later I was invited to teach Romiromi and since then have facilitated Romiromi workshops in Aotearoa, Australia and Hawaii as a seed carrier of this ancient knowledge.
Romiromi is a sacred contract with IO, (God- Source), the tupuna (ancestors) and the Romiromi practitioners. The matrix of light workers channel the shifts required by the person in need of healing.

Romiromi is body, mind and spirit structural integration. It works on the central nervous system connecting the light bodies with the physical, mental and emotional bodies. It is a combination of body alignment, deep tissue massage and pressure on the haemata (body pressure points) to activate release of blocked energy and anything not serving or belonging to the body. Entering at a molecular level the practitioner facilitates the removal of blocked cellular memory stored in the body and dna. At a deep level it can release lifetimes of trauma and disfunction held within families for generations causing imbalance and disease.

After a Romiromi treatment, people feel lighter as they have returned closer to their original vibration. The spiritual energies are able to flow through the body envigorating, nourishing and protecting the internal organs and body systems.
